Purpose and Structure of the Virtual Career Fair

The Virtual Career fair provides a forum for students/residents and potential employers to connect through networking conversations.  The Virtual Career Fair takes place online within Handshake, The Ohio State University’s comprehensive web-based career services management platform.

Interacting with Virtual Career Fair Participants

Virtual Career Fair participants will be first through fourth year Doctor of Optometry Students, Ohio State Optometry Residents, and May 2023 OD graduates who are currently working at residency sites that are not affiliated with the college.

It is important to note that your interactions with participants are not interviews. The interactions are intended to facilitate an introduction, start a conversation and provide an opportunity for you to highlight the great opportunities available at your practice and in your community.  Consider networking with students who are early in their optometry school journey as connections made now can lead to opportunities in the future.

Virtual career fair interactions occur in two formats:

  • 10 minute 1-1 meetings between an employer and one participant. This format allows you to have a 1-1 conversation that might feel similar to an initial meeting at an in-person networking event or in-person career fair.
  • 30 minute group interactions with up to 50 participants. This format allows you to provide a brief presentation about your practice and opportunities you have for employment and allow participants to ask questions.

Before and after the fair, you may view the profiles of students and residents that have scheduled to meet with you and send them messages. Please note you can only view and communicate with the students and residents that have scheduled to meet with you in a large group or 1:1 sessions.
