Dr. Jeff Myers Appointed to the Ohio Vision Professionals Board 

& Special Recognition to Outgoing VPB Member Dr. Tom Nye

The OOA is proud to announce that Governor Mike DeWine has appointed OOA Past President Dr.Dr. Jeff Myers Jeff Myers to the Ohio Vision Professionals Board. His term began March 29, 2024 and will continue through March 22, 2026. Dr. Myers has an outstanding record of professionalism, career achievement, and service to optometry which made him a deserving candidate for this appointment.  

Dr. Myers is the owner of Winchester Vision Care in Canal Winchester. He serves as a Clinical Professor of Practice for The Ohio State University College of Optometry and is a Primary Care Practice Preceptor to 4th year students. He also consulted at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over 20 years.  

He received his Doctorate of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University, and has dedicated his career to serving the profession. Dr. Myers served on the OOA Board of Directors and was President in 1996-1997. He was instrumental in helping expand scope of practice and passing the use of therapeutics. He was a recipient of both the Ohio Optometric Association’s Young OD of the Year and Optometrist of the Year awards, as well as receiving the Outstanding Service Award. Dr. Myers also served on the Ohio Optometric Foundation Board of Directors for many years and in the role of President from 2006-2012.  

He is the author of numerous publications and is the founder and sponsor of the Jeffrey and Joyce Myers Lecture Series at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He served as the editor of the OSU Optometry Alumni Magazine, BuckEYE for 20 years. Dr. Myers also served on the Dean’s Advisory College and was recipient of the Neil J. Bailey Optometry Medal for Development. 

Also serving his community, Dr. Myers has dedicated much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America where he served in numerous roles but most notably as a Life member on the Council Executive Board. He is active in the Groveport United Methodist Church where he has participated in extensive mission work in Africa for student scholarships and developing vision care.  

Dr. Myers’ impressive record of service to the profession of optometry will be an asset to the Ohio Vision Professionals Board. The OOA wishes him well in this role as he works to serve and protect the public of Ohio by effectively and efficiently regulating the practices of Optometry, Opticianry, and Ocularistry in Ohio.  

Special Recognition of Service of Dr. Tom Nye 

The Ohio Optometric Association also recognizes and thanks Dr. Tom Nye of Hamilton for his Dr Nyededication and service to the Ohio Vision Professionals Board as he concludes the term of his last appointment. Dr. Nye was previously a member of the State Board of Optometry for over five years, after originally being appointed by Governor John Kasich in 2012, and was elected President of that board in 2016. Dr. Nye was then appointed by Governor Kasich in 2018 to the newly created Ohio Vision Professionals Board, of which he also served as President. The OOA thanks Dr. Nye for his dedication to serving the profession of optometry and for protecting and serving the public.
